Aerial Firing to Disperse Protesters in Zainapora Shopian

July 20 Intense Clashes have erupted on Friday afternoon in the Wachi Zainapora area of Shopian District in South Kashmir. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the clashes began after scores of youth started throwing stones on a Army vehicle that passed through the area. The troops tried to chase away the protesting youth and when the protesters regrouped the Army fired in the air to disperse the protesters. However the clashes were going on when this report was filed.

Another Educated Youth Joins Militant Ranks

July 20 Another Youth from South Kashmir has joined Militant ranks making him one of the at least hundred youth to have joined Militant ranks this year. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Syed Ruban, a son of Syed Hussain Shah has joined Militant outfit, Jaish e Muhammad. The 21 year old, a graduate was missing from his home in Nazneenpora area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. South Kashmir have been joining Militancy swiftly since the three encounters of April 01 when 13 Militants were killed in a single day. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that they're checking the authenticity of the photo that has appeared on the internet.

Students Allegedly Beaten by Forces at Shopian

July 18 Several students of Sirajul uloom Higher secondary school Hillow Imam sahib were ruthlessly beaten by local army unit of 34RR located at Woyen imam Sahib, locals alleged. They said that students of class 8th and 9th were on way to their native village DK PORA however they were stopped by army near camp, taken inside and beaten up by the army men there. Soon after the news of beating students reached the area, locals staged protest and demanded action against the army men involved in the incident. Locals alleged that thrashing civilians without provocation, snatching mobile phones and calling to camp has become order of the day in the area. Forces Assault Locals, vandalise Property in Shopian Area, At least 6 Injured

July 18 The residents of Moshwara Area in South Kashmir's Shopian District on Wednesday accused the Government Forces of excesses in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that forces barged into the area late night on Tuesday and forced their entry into the houses. "They assaulted all the inmates including old, women and children," a local Mansoor Ahmed from Moshwara Shopian told The Kashmiriyat. Mansoor said that the forces also vandalised the property of the locals and ransacked window panes of many houses. He said that at least six people were injured after troopers thrashed them. OGW Arrested in South Kashmir

July 16 The Jammu Kashmir Police has claimed to have arrested a Militant Over Ground Worker (OGW) during a raid in Pulwama District of South Kashmir. Police officials confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that an OGW namely Sabzar Ahmed Mir aged 29 was apprehended by Joint Team of Jammu Kashmir police and Pulwama and 3 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army. PHC Wachi Functioning in rented Rooms, Without Proper Staff

July 16 A public Health centre at Wachi area of South Kashmir's Shopian which lacks basic facilities and staff even after 6 years of its establishment. The residents told The Kashmiriyat that the non availability of the facilities at the centre is compelling patients to reach district or sub district hospitals. According to locals, the PHC was established in year 2013 and work on building was started in the same year however the building still awaits for completion as work on the hospital building is going at snails pace.
