MET Predicts Snowfall in Kashmir from Monday

The MET Department has predicted a fresh spell of snowfall from Monday (November 23) in the upper reaches of Kashmir Valley, and rainfall to moderate snowfall in the plains of the valley. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a MeT official said that from Monday, the upper reaches of the Kashmir Valley are likely to witness another spell of snowfall, while the temperatures across the region are likely to take a further dip. The minimum temperature according to Kashmir weather recorded in Kashmir was Srinagar was 2.1°C, Qazigund 2.6°C. Gulmarg shivered at minus 7.5°C, while Pahalgam and Kokarnag recorded lows of -3.2°C and 1.2°C, respectively. The Forest Division has further issued eviction notices to the “unauthorized occupants” of the forest land in various areas of Jammu Kashmir. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat Sources said that notices have been issued to the members of the indigenous Gujjar and Bakerwal community in areas of Kathua and Ganderbal. Forest Rights Act to be Implemented in Jammu Kashmir by January 31, 2021

The Jammu Kashmir administration has said that it will implement the Forest Rights Act, 2006 The Forest Rights Act provides for the granting of rights of forest lands to forest dwellers. However, the rights conferred under this act shall be "heritable but not alienable or transferable", he said. This step is being taken in view of the large scale encroachment of huge forest lands and its illegal sale in Jammu and Kashmir. He said departments of tribal affairs, and forest, ecology, and the environment started working on its implementation in October this year. The marriage assistance to the needy unmarried girls has witnessed constant dip in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar from the last three financial years, official documents reveal. According to the official figures under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS), a total of 555 unmarried girls have got the benefits in district Srinagar. However, from the past three financial years, there has been a dip of at least 90.46 per cent in providing assistance to the needy unmarried girls. The official figures of the Directorate of Social Welfare Kashmir (DSWK) state that in district Srinagar, 309 beneficiaries were given assistance in the financial year 2017-18 followed by 193 beneficiaries in 2018-19 and 53 in 2019-20.
