Son of a government school teacher, 31-year-old Saifullah Mir had joined the militant movement in 2014. Mir, who was the Hizbul Mujahideen chief, has been reported killed by the forces in an encounter on November 1, 2020, in Srinagar. A child of conflict, Mir was born in 1989 when the militancy was raging in full swing in the valley. But there is more to his identity than just being a militant. Around 125 local Militants killed during the anti-Militant operations were buried in far-flung areas from their homes this year so far in Jammu Kashmir. A total of 171 Militants were killed in the hinterland in the valley till October 10 this year. In April this year, the state administration had taken a decision to carry out the burial of killed local Militants in areas far from their hometowns to help the security establishment in maintaining law and order in the valley. The Indian government is sponsoring renovation of several religious sites in Srinagar, Kashmir. A report says that the Restoration work has begun on a Hindu temple, Sikh gurudwara, a church, an Imambara and two Muslim shrines.
