December 13 The Jammu-Srinagar national Highway has been closed for traffic on Thursday, a traffic police official told The Kashmiriyat. On Thursday, the Highway will remain closed for all kinds of traffic due to heavy snowfall at Jawahar Tunnel and adjoining areas in South Kashmir, he said. “Men and machinery have been pressed in to clear the roads but it’s still snowing at few places which is hampering the clearance operation,” he added.

December 12 Many parts of Kashmir received heavy rains since early morning, an official of the meteorological (MeT) department said. He said south Kashmir's Kokernag, in Islamabad (Anantnag) district, received the highest rainfall of 63.4mm till 8.30am, while the neighbouring Qazigund received 58.6mm of rainfall. Snowfall has also started in Dooru area of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) district and many other parts of South Kashmir. November 29 The Employees of  Jammu Kashmir Bank on Thursday staged a protest in Srinagar demanding roll back of state administrative council’s (SAC) decision to turn the bank into a public sector undertaking (PSU). The call for protests was issued by All India J&K Bank officers Federation on Wednesday. Dozens of employees assembled at the corporate headquarters of the bank on MA road in Srinagar and staged a protest demonstration.

November 27 Scores of students of Islamic University of Science and Technology and Government Degree College Bemina staged a protest demonstration against the killing of slain Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt in Budgam on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that students raised pro-independence and anti-India slogans and marched through the campus of Islamic University. In Srinagar's Bemina Degree College, The students also pelted stones on the forces. However, the witnesses said, the government forces did not retaliate to the protesting students. Meanwhile, reports said that as the news about the killing of top militant commander Naveed Jatt reached Pampore, the shopkeepers downed their shutters.

November 25 With the killing of six militants on Sunday in south Kashmir’s Shopian district the death toll for the year reached 406 which is the highest in a decade. So far this year, 406 people have been killed in Kashmir, and more than half of whom were militants, The number of deaths in violence in Kashmir had dropped to 99 in 2012 but has since been climbing. According to the report Kashmir has witnessed a spike in violence since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took power in 2014. Analysts say the hardline policies adopted by the Hindu nationalist government may further worsen the situation. Adding that government forces have stepped up an offensive against militants operating inside the Kashmir Valley as well as those trying to intrude from across the border with Pakistan.

November 23 The Kashmir Valley woke up to a foggy morning  on Friday, leading to poor visibility and affected road traffic in most parts of the Kashmir. Srinagar, the summer capital of the state and many parts of the Valley witnessed dense fog in the morning. It led to traffic jam as motorists drove cautiously due to poor visibility. The Meteorological Department here said the fog was a result of sudden dip in the temperatures and condensation of water droplets in the atmosphere. “This is a normal phenomenon during time of the season,” said a weather office official.

November 20 Mobile Internet has been suspended in Pulwama, Shopian Districts of South Kashmir following an encounter that raged in the Nadigam area of Shopian District. Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that mobile internet including 2G,3G and 4G has been barred in Pulwama and Shopian as the encounter raged in the area. November 15 The weather is likely to improve in Jammu Kashmir from today after a fresh snowfall in the higher reaches in the last 24 hours. The officials of MeT said that they are expecting weather to remain dry till November 21.
