Masrat Alam Booked Under 37th PSA

November 14 The incarcerated Hurriyat Leader Masarat Alam Bhat was on Wednesday shifted to Hira Nagar jail Jammu after authorities booked him under the fresh Public Safety Act (PSA). The fresh orders, incidentally 37th in the series, were passed Wednesday morning by the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, a spokesperson of his party Muslim League said. After being slapped with 37th PSA, which is a world record, Masarat Alam was shifted to Hira Nagar Jail in Jammu, Ayoubi said. Masarat Alam, who spearheaded the 2010 agitation, was arrested in October same year, he was released in 2015, however rearrested shortly.

JRL Calls For Complete Shutdown on November 17

November 14 The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a complete shutdown across Kashmir on November 17 against the panchayat polls. The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik urged people to observe shutdown against the Polls being conducted on the 17 November. The leadership asked the people to reject and boycott the Panchayat polls in the same way they rejected the Urban Local Bodies polls by staying indoors.

MET Department Predicts Snowfall, Rain for the Next three Days

November 11 The state’s meteorological department has predicted light to moderate  rain and snowfall for the next three days across Kashmir. However, the minimum temperatures in the state have increased and there are chances of rain, snow in Kashmir from November 12, to 14, the MeT department said. Earlier on November 3, the state witnessed heavy snowfall. Meanwhile, the night temperature in Srinagar was recorded 3.2  degrees Celsius, Pahalgam recorded 0.7 and Gulmarg minus 3.5 degrees. Leh town recorded minus 1.3 and Kargil 6.6 as the night’s lowest. In the Jammu region, Katra recorded 12.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 7.6, Bannihal 4.6 and Bhaderwah 4.3.

Protest in Central University of Kashmir Against the Detention of Students

November 10 The students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) staged a protest demonstrations against the arrest of two post-graduate students in Nowgam campus on Satuday. Students told The Kashmiriyat that Scores of students of CUK Nowgam assembled in the campus on Saturday demanding the release of two political science students Suhail Ahmad and Mohammad Ismail. They said that the duo were arrested by government forces during a nocturnal raid on Friday from their rented accommodation in Nowgam locality of Srinagar. Both the students hail from Shopian district of south Kashmir.

SGR-LEH Reopens for One-Way Traffic After 8 Day Closure

November 09 The 434 km Strategic Srinagar Leh highway connecting Ladakh region was on Friday reopens for traffic after remaining closed for 9 consecutive days due to heavy snowfall. The highway was closed last week for vehicular traffic after the high altitude areas of Kashmir, including Sonamarg,Zojila Pass,Meenmarg,Zero Point and other part’s of the Road received heavy snowfall. Official Sources further said that Srinagar Leh highway was thrown open for traffic on Friday. BRO authorities managing the highway had launched a massive snow clearance operation from Drass (on Kargil) and Sonamarg (on valley side) simultaneously, officials said. Al-Umar asks contestants of recently held polls in JK to resign within 40 days

October 24 Al-Umar Mujahideen, a militant outfit on Wednesday said that the armed struggle was the only solution to resolve the Kashmir issue. According to tele-statement issued by Al-Umar chief, Mushtaq Zargar said that “the India occupied Jammu Kashmir forcibly in the year 1947 and are committing atrocities on people. The Kashmir issue can only be resolved through armed struggle.” He also asked the candidates who participated in recent elections to resign within 40 days, saying “we have the list of candidates who participated in recent elections held in Jammu and Kashmir. We warn them to resign within 40 days.” “We also warn the informers to seek forgiveness for their doings,” he said.

At least 25 Injured in Ongoing Clashes during Kulgam Encounter

October 21 At least twenty five people have been injured in stone throwing clashes between protesters and Government Forces in Surat in Haroo Area of South Kashmir's Kulgam District on Sunday morning. Unscheduled power cuts hits Ganderbal residents

October 20 Rayees Shah There seems to be no end to the power crisis, which keeps on worsening across the central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Complaints are pouring in from different areas of Ganderbal district including kangan, prang, wussan, chinnar, kijpora, Gujarpati Prang, Lari and Bonizil that the Power Development Department (PDD) was resorting to the frequent power cuts. Government Forces Assault Journalists In Srinagar

October  19 Three journalists of The Kashmir Walla were assaulted by Government forces in Nawab Bazar area of Srinagar city. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that three journalists were roughed up by Forces during clashes between youth and the government forces. They were rounded up by Forces and later taken away in a Rakshak vehicle.
