Spontaneous Shutdown in Islamabad, Kulgam Areas

September 15 A Spontaneous shutdown is being observed in most of the parts of South Kashmir's Kulgam and Islamabad (Anantnag) Districts on Saturday as an encounter has raged between Militants and Government Forces in Qazigund area of South Kashmir. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that shops, business establishments in both the districts have shut following the killing of Local Militants in the encounter. Many Educational institutes in both the Districts have been closed for the day and mobile internet has been shut as a 'precautionary measure' in both the districts. Railway Services to and From South Kashmir have been suspended by Railway authorities.

Government Fixes rates for Rabi Crop Seeds

September 13 Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi today convened a high-level meeting of divisional Sale Rate Fixation Committee to take stock of the preparations for Rabi season. Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture impressed upon the officers that quality seed availability should be ensured in all the districts of the Kashmir Division well in time, so that farmers may not face any hardships. Andrabi directed the officers of different agencies and allied wings to work with close coordination and commitment for the betterment and upliftment of farming community. Educational Institutes to Remain closed in Sopore on Friday

September 13 SHABIR KHAN All educational institutions will remain closed in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday after two foreign Militants were killed in a Gunfight in Arampora area of Sopore. Officials said that the administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions in Sopore and adjacent areas on Friday as a precautionary measure. A gunfight took place between the militants and the forces early morning during a search operation launched by the Government Forces ending with the killing of two Militants.

MeT Predicts Rainfall in Jammu Kashmir on Saturday, Sunday

September 13 After a brief dry spell, the weather department has predicted intermittent rain for two days in Kashmir Valley. A MeT official said that there are chances of rain on Sep 15 and 16 across Kashmir Valley. “Higher reaches and plains can receive moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday,” he said adding that weather will be clear from Monday. The official added that from Sep 15 there will be a dip in temperature as well.

Petrol Price reaches 85.31/ L in Srinagar, Rs 88/ Litre in Mumbai, 81 in Delhi

September 13 Fuel prices once again witnessed a hike on Thursday, with petrol being sold at Rs 81.00 per litre and diesel at Rs 73.08 per litre here in the national capital. The price of petrol has been increased by 13 paise per litre, while diesel saw a hike of 11 paise per litre, as compared to Tuesday’s prices in New Delhi. In Mumbai, petrol and diesel have touched a new high of Rs 88.39 and Rs 77.58 per litre respectively. On Wednesday, fuel prices remained steady after breaching record levels continuously for over a week. As per the Indian Oil Corporation, petrol was being sold at Rs 80.87 and diesel at Rs 72.97 per litre in the national capital on Tuesday, while in Mumbai, petrol and diesel were being sold at Rs 88.26 and Rs 77.47 per litre respectively. Teacher Tries to Molest a Girl Student in Kupwara

September 12 A Rehbar e Taleem teacher was placed under suspension after he allegedly tried to molest a Girl student in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that, ReT teacher Hilal Ahmad allegedly tried to molest a Girl Student of upper Primary class in Lilam area of Kupwara. The Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kupwara confirmed that the teacher has been placed under suspension vide order number 1045-49.

Non Local Labourer Found with Slit throat in Sopore

September 11 A non local laborer died of grievous injuries after he was found in a pool of blood with throat slit at his rental accommodation at Kaloo Mohallah Sopore  on Tuesday. Identified as Haroon Rashid 28, S/o Toib Alam of Bihar was in a pool of blood with his throat slit and was immediately shifted to SDH Sopore where doctor referred him to SMHS Srinagar for advance treatment. He succumbed due to injuries later. Police in this regard has registered the case and further investigation has taken up.

4 Drug Peddlers Arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police

September 06 Four suspected drug peddlers were arrested in Kathua and Rajouri districts of Jammu Kashmir on Thursday, police said. Acting on a tip-off, three persons were intercepted in Raj Bagh area of Kathua district and 14 grams of heroin was recovered, a Police official said. Another man, Dushyant Singh, was arrested at Tarpai bridge on the Rajouri-Thanamandi road after 15 grams of heroin was allegedly recovered from him during a search, they said. Cases have been registered in both the incidents.

30 Teachers Detained in Srinagar

September 05 Hundreds of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers protested Wednesday to press for various demands, including implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, inviting water canon and baton charge by police, who also took 30 of them into preventive custody. The teachers had assembled at the Sher-e-Kashmir park here to observe "black day" on the occasion of Teachers' Day. As soon as the teachers stepped out of the park and started marching towards the SKICC, where a function marking Teachers' Day was in progress, police stopped the protesters and asked them to disperse, an official said.
