‘Asked to Vacate Land, Received Property Tax Bills from Forces’- Allege Srinagar Residents

The Badami Bagh Cantonment Board (BBCB) has allegedly started imposing property tax in areas under its jurisdiction in Srinagar city. Locals from the Sonwar, Indra Nagar, Batwara areas in Srinagar city have reported that they have received tax bills for the present year on their residential properties. According to the latest report by Kashmir Life, the BBCB has issued these bills under the 'Section 66(a) Cantonment Act 2006'. The locals have said that higher taxes have been imposed on the commercial properties in the area. A local says, "I received a bill of Rs 25000 for the period beginning from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022." Meer Irfan 38-year-old Mohammed Amin Malik was killed hours after he allegedly snatched a rifle from a Policeman inside a camp of the Special Operation Group of Jammu Kashmir Police in the Tral area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Mohammed Amin Malik, the brother of a slain Militant killed during an encounter in 2019 in the Tral, has been trapped after he tried to snatch the rifle of a Government Force personnel inside a SOG camp in the Tral belt of South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday afternoon. A resident of the Nagbal area of Tral, Amin's brother Shabir Ahmed Malik who was an associate of Zakir Musa's Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind (AGH), was killed during an encounter with government forces on 26 June 2019. The Jammu Kashmir police on Saturday evening arrested two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, who died on 5 May in a hospital during his imprisonment under Public Safety Act (PSA). The Tehreek-i-Hurriyat Chairman, Sehrai, passed away at the Government Medical College in Jammu, where he was brought from a Jammu jail. The family sources said that the duo was arrested from their residence at Bulbulbagh area of Barzulla, in Srinagar.
