Mathematics Scholar and a Teacher Slain in Tral Encounter

January 03 Three Militants have been killed in the ongoing encounter in Tral area of South Kashmir on Wednesday. Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that three Local Militants have been killed in the joint operation by Government Forces including 42 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF. As per initial reports one among the three slain is Tawseef Ahmed thokar, a scholar turned Militant from Chursoo area of Awantipora in South Kashmir. December 29 The Kashmir valley yet another cold night as the  temperatures dipped to Minus 7.2 degrees Celsius in the Summer capital of Jammu Kashmir. A MET Department official told that the cold weather conditions are likely to continue for another four to five days with chances of snow in the first week of January. Pahalgam recorded temperature at minus 8.3 degree Celsius while it was minus 7 degree Celsius in Gulmarg. Even the maximum temperature recorded in Drass on Friday did not rise above the freezing point as it settled at minus 5.5 degree.

December 15 One of the civilians killed in Sirnoo area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District has been identified as Aqib Bashir from Prichoo Pulwama. Aqib, a class 8th student, was one of the seven civilians killed when forces resorted to firing upon protesters on Saturday morning. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the body of Aqib was lying in the hospital bed for a long time as "unidentified" until a passerby in the Pulwama hospital came to check the face of the teenager, "The man upon checking the face fainted saying, Yi Chu myeoun Nechow (he is my son)."
