Cattle Population Increases in Islamabad (Anantnag) Animal Husbandry Organises One Day Awareness Camp

The Department of Animal Husbandry in Islamabad (anantnag) District on Thursday organised one day District level awareness camp under Foot Mouth Diseases (FMD) control at District Veterinary Hospital.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner for the District, Showkat Ahmad Rather was the Chief Guest on the occasion addressed the event which was attended by large number of progressive farmers of the district related with Animal Husbandry Sector. .

He said that the programme has been started in the district from 17th November, 2018 and a targeted livestock population of more than 21 lacs is being targeted under the FMD Control Programme out of which 60 per cent achievements has been recorded so far in the district.

The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Mohammad Saleem also spoke on the occasion and said that FMD Control Programme was launched in India during 2003 and 54 districts were selected for inclusion of FMD Control Campaign.

He highlighted the achievements of the department in district and said that the total cattle population of the district has reached to 603801 lacs which include 183533 lac cross breed, The milk production of the district has touched to 2.51000 tones while the poultry meat production has reached to 3010000 tones.

He sought cooperation of the district administration in providing 03 to 04 kanals of land at Wanpoh to establishment the poultry mandi.

The camp was also addressed by Joint Director Animal Husbandry, Dr. Tahir Hussain Beigh and other senior officers & doctors of the department.
