Central University of Kashmir students protest against attacks on Kashmiri students, LG Manoj Sinha expresses concern

Students of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Thursday held a condolence meeting to mourn the killing of at least 26 people, mostly tourists, in the recent terror attack at Baisaran, Pahalgam.

The gathering included a two-minute silence, prayers, and calls for peace amid what students described as an unbearable tragedy.

Calling the attack “utterly devastating,” the students said they stood in solidarity with the victims and their families. “This is not just an attack on tourists—it is an attack on shared humanity. No one deserves to die this way,” said one of the students during the gathering.

Participants expressed deep sorrow over the recurring cycle of violence in Kashmir, demanding an end to attacks that continue to claim innocent lives.

“We are heartbroken. Kashmiris are tired of mourning. We want peace and dignity, not grief and fear,” said another student.

The students also raised serious concern over reports of Kashmiri students and drivers being harassed in other parts of India following the Pahalgam attack. In a joint appeal to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the Jammu Kashmir government, they urged authorities to act swiftly to ensure the safety of Kashmiris outside the region.

“We condemn all forms of violence, including the reactionary targeting of innocent Kashmiris. No community should be punished for the actions of a few. This only fuels more hate,” the students stated in their appeal.

The meeting concluded with a collective prayer for the departed souls and a renewed call for justice, safety, and peace.
