Centre To Send 25 Additional CRPF Companies To JK: Report

Amid the alarming reports of targeted civilian killings and gunfights between the security forces and militants, the central government has decided to move extra forces to Jammu Kashmir, News 18 reported on Wednesday.

The report, citing sources, says that an official communication about sending 25 companies of troops to Jammu Kashmir will be released soon.

These additional companies of CRPF will be sent in a phased manner, the report says. 10 companies will be sent to in the first phase, while remaining 15 will be dispatched in the second phase.

The report also cites sources having confirmed that the decision was taken in view of the current situation during a high-level meeting.

“Almost two dozen CRPF companies will be moving to Jammu and Kashmir from different parts of the country in view of the current situation. Soon, an official communication will be released to move these troops,” News 18 said quoting sources in the government.

Further, it has been said in the report that the arrangements for the accommodation, transportation etc have already begun. The process of informing companies who will be going to J&K has also started, it says.

“The step was decided in a high-level meeting. Arrangements will be made soon and after that, an official communication will be released in a few days,” an official claimed, as per the report.

DG CRPF Kuldeep Singh was already in Jammu Kashmir monitoring operations and the situation along with other top officials of the biggest paramilitary force, it adds.

The report also said that it was expected that the DG would remain there till Home Minister Amit Shah reaches Jammu Kashmir for his visit from October 23-25.

The month of October has by far been the bloodiest month in the region. Other than the alarming number of targeted civilian killings of locals and non-locals, about 15 militants have been killed in the past two weeks and atleast 10 armed forces personnel have been killed during gunfight with the militants.
