Changing names on communal lines BJP’s agenda, not in Kashmiri ethos: Aga Ruhullah

A day after Union Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress for its alliance with the National Conference (NC) in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, NC MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi responded sharply, accusing the BJP of surviving on “lies and distortion of facts.”

On Friday, Shah had alleged that the Congress was endangering national unity and security in its pursuit of power by partnering with the NC.

He also questioned the NC’s manifesto, specifically its stance on reservations for various communities and its position on certain place names in Srinagar.

Mehdi, the member parliament from Srinagar, rejected Shah’s claims, stating that the NC’s manifesto does not seek to abolish reservations for Dalits, Gujjars, Bakerwals, or Pahadis but rather aims to ensure fairness by implementing a 50% cap on reservations as directed by the Supreme Court.

He also dismissed the allegation that the NC intends to rename historical sites, asserting that such claims are examples of the BJP’s divisive tactics.

In a tweet, Mehdi stated, “Lying and distorting the facts is what BJP and its regime survives on.” He urged the BJP to stop spreading misinformation, adding, “You have already tarnished the identity and dignity of Kashmiris beyond repair with your lies and misinformation.”
