Encounter breaks out in Kishtwar area

A fierce gunfight broke out on Wednesday evening between militants and government forces in the Chatroo area of Jammu Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials confirmed.

According to sources in the police department, the exchange of fire began after a joint team of the Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the search team zeroed in on the suspected hideout, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering an encounter,” an official said.

The area has been completely sealed off, and reinforcements have been rushed in to prevent any escape.

There is no immediate information on the number of militants involved or any casualties on either side.

Local sources reported that heavy firing could be heard in and around the area, causing panic among residents.
