Child dies in mother’s womb at Qazigund hospital, Family alleges medical negligence

A baby was found dead in the mother’s womb at the time of delivery while the family members have alleged medical negligence at Emergency hospital Qazigund.

Family members of a pregnant woman identified as Shaboraza Akhtar wife of Showkat Ahmad Bhat from Khushipora area of Kulgam told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Shabroz was under the treatment of a doctor at the emergency hospital Qazigund.

“On Monday, we brought her to emergency hospital Qazigund where doctor Nelofar Jan told us to come tomorrow,” they said.

They said that on Tuesday at 9:00 am, they came to the hospital and the patient was being operated on for delivery, “even doctors told us to buy clothes for the baby, however, after a few minutes we were informed that the baby was dead in the womb since four days.”

“If the baby was dead in the womb, then how she wasn’t informed on Monday and how the life of our daughter was also risked,” they asked.

“We demand justice as it should not happen with others as the nine months of our sister have gone in vain.”

They alleged that the baby has injury marks on his body and died, due to the negligence of doctors at Emergency hospital Qazigund.

They demand matter must be investigated at ear earliest and action must be initiated against involved doctors.

Medical Superintendent (MS), Emergency Hospital, Qazigund, Dr. Shugufta Salam told KNO that a committee has been constituted to enquire about the matter

“I assure the family and other people that a fair probe will be done in this regard and anyone found guilty will be dealt with as per the law,” she said.

LSCS of patient has been conducted today, as per LMP her EDD was on 24th of this month, after LSCS the baby was found IOD having some defects on skin, she said—(KNO)
