
The Commanding Officer (CO) of the 19RR of the Indian Army, stationed in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, was among the three Government force personnel killed during the ongoing encounter in the Gadol area of the south Kashmir district, reported Press Trust of India.
An official confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that 19RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by militants when they had laid a cordon and search operation in the area.
During the initial exchange of gunfire, three top ranking officials of Indian Army and Police were injured and soon rushed to the Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
One of the injured, identified as the CO of 19 RR identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, also a sena medal recipient, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
As per the latest reports, two more officials including a DySP rank officer of Jammu Kashmir Police and a major of the same Army Unit (19RR) too succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to three.
Meanwhile, the cordon and search operation is still going on at the spot of the encounter.
