Kashmir continues to reel under a biting cold wave, with most parts witnessing the coldest night of the season, the Meteorological Department said on Friday.
Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded its lowest temperature so far at 0.2°C. In south Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the mercury dipped to -3.0°C, while the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered -2.6°C.
Kupwara also recorded sub-zero temperatures at -1.3°C, signalling the early onset of harsh winter conditions across the region.
According to weather officials, temperatures are likely to hover around or below freezing point in the coming days.
They have urged residents—especially the elderly, children, and those in higher altitudes—to take precautions against the intense cold.
Authorities have cautioned motorists about slippery and icy road surfaces and advised the use of anti-skid measures to prevent accidents.
The Meteorological Department has further urged the public to stay updated on daily forecasts, warning that temperatures could dip further as cold winds continue to sweep across Kashmir.
