Cold spell sweeps across Kashmir valley as residents await snowfall

The meteorological forecast for the Jammu Kashmir region unveils anticipated weather patterns and temperature fluctuations across various locations.

On January 25, the forecast indicates the likelihood of experiencing light snow at isolated higher reaches.

Subsequently, from January 26 to 28, there is an expectation of encountering light rain and snow over scattered places.

Looking ahead, the weather models hint at the potential for light to moderate rain/snow at numerous locations from January 29 to 31, with detailed information set to be shared in the upcoming days.

In addition to precipitation forecasts, the Meteorological Department issues a warning about the redevelopment of moderate to dense fog.

Simultaneously, there is a projected fall in day temperatures over the Jammu Division in the next three days, emphasizing the importance of preparedness for changing weather conditions.

Residents of the Kashmir Valley woke up to an exceptionally cold morning as sub-zero temperatures gripped the region, casting a frosty spell over the picturesque landscape.

The mercury dipped significantly across various locations, ushering in a bone-chilling day for the valley dwellers.

In the heart of Kashmir, Srinagar, the capital city, registered a frosty start with temperatures plummeting to minus 3.7°C.

Heading south, Qazigund experienced a chilly morning with the mercury dropping to minus 4.0°C. The southern town’s residents navigated the cold weather, emphasizing the need for extra layers to combat the frigid temperatures.

Tourist in Pahalgam recorded a noteworthy minus 5.5°C, setting the stage for a day where the winter chill took center stage. As the town adorned itself in a frosty ambiance, visitors and locals alike embraced the beauty of the icy landscape.

In the northern town of Kupwara, the temperature settled at minus 4.7°C, signaling a considerable drop in the mercury. Residents prepared for a cold day ahead, ensuring they were well-equipped to face the winter chill.

Throughout the valley, including Kokernag and Gulmarg, where temperatures reached minus 2.0°C and minus 4.6°C, respectively, the region’s natural beauty was juxtaposed with the harshness of winter.

The town of Anantnag reported a freezing minus 5.5°C, solidifying its status as one of the coldest spots in the valley.

Ganderbal and Pulwama, with temperatures of minus 3.4°C and minus 5.9°C, respectively, joined the collective experience of facing the winter’s icy embrace.

As residents of Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, and Shopian woke up to temperatures ranging from minus 4.9°C to a chilling minus 6.5°C, the entire valley was united in navigating the cold spell.

As the sub-zero temperatures persist, locals are urged to take necessary precautions, layer up against the cold, and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions in the region.
