The Jammu Kashmir administration on Monday said that it will regularise the colonies of displaced families from Pakistan.
LG Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated LG’s Special Governance Camp for Displaced Persons/ West Pakistan refugees.
Addressing a gathering in Jammu, LG Sinha said, JK admin will construct Smriti Bhawan in the memory of martyrs of Pakistan Administered Jammu Kashmir.
“Steps will be taken to regularize the colonies of displaced families. It is our responsibility to secure their rights & build an enabling environment to fulfill aspirations of youth,” LG said.
He said that the administration started various outreach programmes in 2021 for families living outside Jammu Kashmir.
The development of new J&K is incomplete without integration of these displaced persons, he said.
The colonies to West Pakistan refugees are in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and were allotted to them in 1954 after they migrated to the Indian side of the International Border.
After the abrogation of Article 370, the Centre has initiated an exercise through which the ownership rights will be granted to the WPRs over lands measuring 46,666 Kanals that were allotted to them before the abrogation of Article 370.
