Officials of the revenue Department on Thursday took possession of a commercial building constructed on the State land in the Srigufwara area of the district, allegedly belonging to a BJP leader.
As per a news report by Daily Excelsior, this was one of the rare occasions that the officials did not go out for the demolition or sealing of the shops, rather called the shopkeepers and informed them that the possession of the complex was taken by the admin and the rent of the shops to the BDO office.
Several shopkeepers said that they were silently called to the revenue office and told that the rent needs to be deposited at the BDO office from the next month. “The shopkeepers said that they have deposited their rent in advance for several years and now that they are being asked to pay the rent again to the department that has taken control of the commercial complex,” the report added.
The two-storey commercial building comprises eleven shops.
Meanwhile, Sofi Yousuf- the BJP leader said that he had valid documents of the land. “I can produce them before the concerned authorities,” he told the news agency KNO.
