‘Compensation for fruit growers’: What is on agenda today in Jammu Kashmir assembly

After a three-day break, the Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly will resume on Monday with a packed schedule, featuring key legislative business and public issues.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to introduce Te Jammu and Kashmir Rent Authority Bill, 2025, which aims to establish a rent authority to regulate tenancy, safeguard landlord and tenant rights, and ensure quick dispute resolution through a formal mechanism.

The House will also take up the report of the Committee headed by Surjeet Singh Slathia, recommending a revision in salaries, allowances, and pensionary benefits of legislators.

According to the Assembly Secretariat, the session will begin at 10 a.m. with the Question Hour, followed by the announcement of the Panel of Chairmen by the Speaker.

Five Calling Attention Notices are scheduled for discussion. NC MLA from Kupwara, Mir Saifullah, will raise the issue of ration shortages in Keran and Jumgand areas, while Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat will highlight the spread of Hepatitis A and other waterborne diseases in Bandipora’s Arin Block.

NC MLA Hilal Akbar Lone (Sonawari) will seek compensation for fruit growers affected by the Srinagar-Jammu Highway blockade, and NC MLA Qaysar Jamshaid Lone (Lolab) will draw attention to the acute drinking water shortage in his constituency.

BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania (Udhampur East) is expected to question the illegal garbage dumping by the Udhampur Municipality at Village Mand along the National Highway, citing environmental and health concerns.

Monday’s proceedings are expected to spark detailed debate as legislators discuss issues of both legislative and public importance.
