Constructed nearly seventeen years ago, the hospital in Drubgam area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District remains non functional due to official callousness, the only service that the hospital provides is once in a while, Pulse Polio immunization.
The hospital located ten kilometers away from the district headquarters of Pulwama was announced by the then MLA of Rajpora, Syed Bashir promising that the hospital will be functional soon.
“The construction was soon initiated and completed in due time, media was called in, they covered the event, big names attended the event,” a local Abdul Rashid told The Kashmiriyat.
He said that since then, nobody other than dogs has visited the hospital, because it remains non functional and has a lot of area covered which could otherwise have been used for agricultural purposes.
The residents said that the hospital building is in shambles with broken doors and cracked windows. “The only purpose the hospital serves is pulse polio immunization,” they told The Kashmiriyat.
With more than thirty rooms constructed, the hospital building is one of the most preferred destinies of dogs, the locals said, adding “Government despite several requests has failed to pay any heed to the genuine demands of locals and upgrade the building into a working hospital.”
An official upon being contacted said that the hospital is in shambles because of a tussle between two villages. “We have a Sub medical centre functional in the village,” the health official said.
