A video of Muslim students from Vadodara’s Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) performing Namaz went viral on social media on social media, sparking a row.
The students were observed offering prayers outside the Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya on the University Campus, reported Muslim Mirror.
Hindu right-wing organizations including the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) responded by reciting the Hanuman Chalisa at the spot.
The Hindu protestors also rushed to the Vice Chancellor’s office and chanted slogans demanding an investigation into the incident.
The VHP claimed that Namaz inside the campus was the result of a conspiracy. It stated that a detailed memorandum will be handed over to university officials today and requested increased security on campus.
Lakulesh Trivedi, the University’s Public Relations Officer, stated in a statement that the University would ‘counsel’ the students and make plans to avoid similar situations in the future.
The students were reportedly studying at the University’s Commerce Department and came to take the exam.
Just a day before the incident, a video of a couple performing Namaz on campus went viral. They were also seen praying outside the Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya. Notably, because they were not University students, they were considered to be parents or guardians of University students.
