On Sunday, the global coronavirus cases neared 10 million, stated a Reuters tally.
The coronavirus has killed approximately half a million people in the last seven months.
This tally comes amidst several hard-hit countries easing lockdowns while making alternations at work and social gatherings. Practising these alternations might last for a year or more until a vaccine is available.
Experts state that countries experiencing a resurgence in cases and responsible authorities partially reinstating lockdowns could be a recurring pattern into 2021.
Covid-19 has resulted in more than 497,000 deaths so far, which is nearly the same as the number of influenza fatalities reported annually.
India and Brazil account for over a third of all new cases reported in the past week as the two countries battle outbreaks of over 10,000 cases a day.
The global total number of coronavirus cases continue to rise at a rate of between 1-2% a day in the past week, down from rates above 10% in March.
According to the Reuters tally: North America, Latin America and Europe each account for around 25% of the cases, while Asia and the Middle East account for 11% and 9% cases respectively.
