
The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Jammu Kashmir administration on a petition filed by Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayyum challenging his detention under the Public Safety Act from August 7 last year.
A bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice BR Gavai issued notice to Jammu Kashmir seeking response till the first week of reopening of the apex court.
Senior advocate Dushyant Dave and advocate Vrinda Grover, appearing for Qayyum, said they have challenged the High Court order upholding their custody under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA).
The bench also gave interim directions to provide some daily essentials while keeping Qayyum in custody in Tihar Jail.
Hundreds of Kashmiris were picked up during the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year and lodged in Jails outside Jammu Kashmir, most of them in Agra in Uttar Pradesh, many of them remain under detention.
