Several devotees who attended the Kumbh Mela flouting the Covid-19 SOPs and took the holy dip tested positive for covid 19.
According to a report by Indian Express, At least 28 lakh devotees turned up for the second holy dip, and of the 18,169 devotees who were tested between Sunday 11.30 pm and Monday 5 pm, as many as 102 people were found positive,
The Kumbh Mela is happening at a time when the coronavirus cases in the country are showing a massive upsurge. Thousands of saffron-clad sadhus flouted Covid norms took theĀ Shahi snan (holy dip) in the river Ganga on Monday.
The report found that there were also no arrangements in place for the thermal screening of devotees anywhere, and no actions were also being taken against people who were flouting the covid protocols.
The devotees took a dip in the Ganges as the Uttarakhand government showered flower petals from helicopters.
