For the first time, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has deployed companies of Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in the jungles of Kashmir.
Insiders on condition of anonymity said that a couple of companies have been deployed in the forests of Kupwara where they will deal with the alleged infiltrators.
They said that CoBRA companies were shifted from Bihar and Jharkhand in April this year and after taking training in Kashmir jungles, they for the first time have been deployed in the forests of Kupwara district.
The insiders told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the CoBRA companies were earlier deployed in different Nexal belts and now they will start taking part in operations in Kashmir Valley.
Pertinently, CoBRA battalions of CRPF are also called jungle warriors who perform anti-militancy operations in difficult terrains of dense forests. [KNT]
