Scores of students at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Ganderbal staged a protest against the hike in fees.
Students numbered in dozens on Thursday gathered outside the University campus on Thursday and said that they were being charged higher fees in comparison with the CUK campus Jammu and provided lesser facilities.
A protesting student spoke to The Kashmiriyat and said that their seniors would pay 30 to 40 per cent less fees than what the students are presently paying. “From our bus service to everything else, the university has not made any improvement of the facilities provided at the University,” he said.
He said that the university lacks accommodation facilities. “We are not provided hostel facilities but are being charged for the same,” he claimed. The students have been boycotting classes for the past few days as the university to demand reduction in the fees and bring it at par with other universities.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, A. Ravinder Nath met the protesting students and asked them to not boycott their classes while assuring them that their grievances would be addressed in a weeks’ time.
