Cyber Police Kashmir warns against spread of fake information on social media

The Cyber Police Kashmir on Monday issued a public advisory warning social media users against circulating fake or misleading information online.

Authorities noted a rise in the number of social media handles sharing “fake and doubtful content” with the intent to mislead the public.

In a statement posted on official platforms, the Cyber Police urged users to refrain from posting or forwarding such content, emphasizing that any violations will be dealt with strictly under the law.

“It has been observed that certain social media handles are sharing fake & doubtful information with intent to mislead the general public,” the statement read. “All users are advised to refrain from posting such content. Any violation will be dealt with as per the law.”

The advisory comes amid heightened concerns over misinformation and communal tensions in the region.

Officials have reiterated that spreading false information not only misleads the public but can also have serious legal consequences under the Information Technology Act and other relevant provisions.
