On Saturday, residents of Harijan Basti in Sarai Kale Khan of Delhi were attacked by a mob after a Dalit man married a Muslim woman with each other’s consent, the police said on Sunday.
The police said that at least 15 to 20 men has entered the locality around 10:30pm and attacked the house of the Dalit man with bricks, broke flower pots, thrashed both men and women and vandalised two-wheelers parked outside houses.
The incident was partly captured in the CCTV Camera footage near the entrance, the police added.
After the incident, police personnel was deployed in the South-east Delhi locality to put thwart on such incidents. The police said that three to four residents suffered minor injuries after they were allegedly attacked.
Four men including the woman’s brother have been arrested, the police said.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) RP Meena said, senior officers, visited the spot and found that the woman had married against her parent’s wishes and the woman’s family members were involved in the incident.
On March 16, the couple got married while a missing report was filed by the woman’s family on Saturday, the police said.
A police officer said that both were called to the police station after questioning, it was found, the woman married the man with consent, their document were checked and were told to leave after the verification by the police.
