An intense exchange of gunfire has begun at the Samnoo area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir where am encounter is going on between militants and Government forces.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Thursday afternoon 34 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir police started searching the Samnoo area, following militant movement in the area.

During the cordon, the suspected militants opened fire on the forces from a residential house, to which forces retaliated.
The encounter continued till late Thursday night, following which it was suspended owing to the darkness. “Search lights had been installed and cordon was tightened to not give a chance to militants to escape taking advantage of the darkness,” the official said.
During the early hours of Friday morning, exchange of gunfire restarted between government forces and militants. “Forces have sealed all the entry and exit points to the area,” he said.
As per the latest reports, a heated exchange of gunfire has begun as three to five militants are believed to be trapped..
