After a cordon and search operation of nearly 60 hours, firing has resumed at the site of the encounter in the Mishipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday, a joint group of 1RR, CRPF, and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in Mishipora of Kulgam’s Redwani area, launched a cordon and search operation.
The hiding militants opened fire on the troopers during the cordon, triggering an encounter.
However, after the initial exchange of gunfire, the militants escaped and since then a massive search operation has been underway to trace the militants. The search operation continued on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the contact was re-established with militants.
As per locals, the firing an intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on at the site of the encounter.
The Jammu Kashmir Police through its official Twitter handle confirmed the encounter saying, “#Encounter has resumed again at #Mishipora area of #Kulgam. Cordon & search #operation has been continuing since Tuesday (14th June). Further details shall follow.”
