The cordon and search operation in the Mishipora area of Redwani belt in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered the fifth day on Saturday morning.
Earlier, on Thursday two militants were killed in the gunfight at the encounter site during the anti-militancy operation that was launched on Tuesday evening. After the initial contact, the militants went into hiding, as per officials.
“Fresh contact was established with hiding militants on Thursday after two days,” police had said.
The Police said that one of the two slain militants was involved in the killing of Rajni Bala, a teacher from Samba. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar on Friday said that the Kulgam encounter is an “important one”.
Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the search operation that began on Tuesday night is still going on as more militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
