The dead body of a man found in Shopian’s Naadpora has been identified as that of Manzoor Ahmed Nengroo, a resident of Pulwama’s Rajpora area.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that a body was spotted by some passersby after which they informed the police and accordingly they rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
During the investigation, the dead man was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Nengroo son of Ghulam Mohammad Nengroo resident of Rajpora Pulwama, the official said.
The Jammu Kashmir Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
The slain is a brother of Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo, a dreaded commander of the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), who was designated as a “terrorist” by the Centre in April this year for his involvement in various militancy-related incidents in Jammu Kashmir.
Nengroo, as per the central Government, is running a syndicate in Kashmir and is now “engaged in a perilous campaign to orchestrate militancy in Jammu Kashmir”, remote-controlled from Pakistan.
In view of the danger that Nengroo poses to the security of India and in order to deter him from perpetrating violent militant acts, India designated Ashiq as a “terrorist” under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the ministry said.
Ashiq is currently operating from Kotli in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, officials say.
Nengroo’s younger brother, Mohammed Abbas was also a Jaish militant and was killed in an encounter with the forces in 2013.
