China and the US have agreed to what Donald Trump described as a “done deal,” pending final approval from Chinese President Xi Jinping. The agreement, reached after two days of talks in London, includes China supplying rare earths and allowing more Chinese students to study in the US.
“Our deal with China is done, subject to final approval with President Xi and me,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China. Likewise, we will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!).”
Trump added, “We are getting a total of 55 per cent tariffs, China is getting 10 per cent. Relationship is excellent!”
Negotiators described the meetings as “professional” and “in-depth,” though official statements are yet to be released. Talks follow rising tensions, including US visa curbs on Chinese students and China’s export restrictions on key minerals.
