Death of Pregnant Lady Sparks Protests in Kupwara

The death of a lady sparked massive protest at Sub District Hospital in Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Sources said that a pregnant lady identified as Parveena Begum wife of Akhtar Ali Khan of Depal Machil area of Kupwara district after developing labour pain was admitted at PHC Machil, where she delivered a baby. However, the condition of the lady deteriorated after the delivery and she was immediately shifted to Kupwara hospital where she died.

Family members shortly after the death staged protest against hospital authorities as the members of the victim maintained that the woman died due to ‘sheer negligence of doctors’. They raised slogans against CMO, BMO Kupwara saying that these officers are spending time in their cozy rooms and have turned hospital into slaughter house.

“The hospital has been turned into a slaughter house by inefficient doctors who do experiments on patients to gain experience. The sheer negligence of doctors has claimed the life of the woman,” said a protester.

When contacted, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr Kounsar said that the woman was brought dead in the hospital and she fails to comprehend why the family members staged protest.

“The woman delivered a baby at PHC Machil at 7:30 and at 11 in the morning she was brought to SDH Kupwara. Doctors declared her brought dead due to excessive bleeding. I don’t know why the family members protest,” Dr Kounsar said. (KNT)
