Death toll of Israeli army troopers in Gaza crosses 10,000

Israeli media reported on Sunday that at least 10,000 Israeli soldiers have been killed or injured since the Gaza conflict began on October 7.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, around 1,000 soldiers are being transferred each month to the Defense Ministry’s rehabilitation department due to injuries from the ongoing war in Gaza.

The newspaper highlighted a severe shortage of personnel, noting that the army is struggling with the loss of approximately 10,000 soldiers over the extended months of conflict.

Yedioth Ahronoth criticized the Knesset for its summer recess from July 22 to mid-October, during which no legislation was passed to extend mandatory military service.

“This is unprecedented in the history of Israel’s wars… soldiers are fighting in enemy territory under harsh conditions for ten consecutive months,” the mother of a soldier in the Nahal Brigade told the newspaper.

The report also mentioned that female soldiers stationed in the Syrian Golan Heights were unexpectedly informed of a four-month extension to their service.

Despite international calls for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its offensive in Gaza since last October’s attack by the Palestinian group Hamas, leading to widespread international condemnation.

Local health authorities report nearly 39,600 Palestinian deaths, primarily women and children, and about 91,400 injuries.

Almost ten months into the conflict, Gaza remains in devastation due to a severe blockade affecting food, clean water, and medicine.

The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of genocide and has ordered an immediate halt to military operations in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge before the city was invaded on May 6.
