The administration on Saturday renamed another college in Kashmir after the name of a slain solider.
Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the Government Degree College (GDC) in Kelam has been renamed after a slain Police Inspector Altaf Ahmad Dar.
Altaf Dar popularly known as Altaf laptop was killed by Abu Qasim after he was chased down by Qasim in Bandipiora in the year 2015.
The Principal of the college speaking on the event organized to commemorate the renaming function said that the Government of India (GoI) has ordered them to rename the college after the slain Police Officer Altaf Ahmad Dar.
Professor Dilruba Hamdani, the principal speaking on the occasion said, “The new name of the college was set by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) after the martyred of Police Officer Altaf Ahmad Dar.”
The Chief Guests on the occasion were the deputy commissioner Kulgam, Dr.Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat (IAS), and Dr. G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, the SSP Kulgam.
In August, the Jammu Kashmir administration had asked all the deputy commissioners of the region to identify government schools that can be renamed after the slain soldiers and prominent personalities.
