Delhi: Man arrested for scamming 700 women using fake profiles on dating apps

Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old man, Tushar Bisht, who allegedly scammed over 700 women on dating apps by posing as a US-based model.

The cyber police of West district apprehended him for exploiting platforms like Bumble and Snapchat to lure victims, blackmail them using private photos and videos, and extort money, according to a police statement.

Bisht created fake profiles using a virtual international mobile number and photos of a Brazilian model to connect with women aged between 18 and 30. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer stated that Bisht gained trust through conversations and convinced women to share intimate content, which he later used for blackmail, threatening to leak it online or sell it on the dark web unless they paid

The investigation revealed he interacted with over 500 women on Bumble and 200 on Snapchat and WhatsApp.

Police seized incriminating evidence from his mobile phone, including objectionable data, virtual numbers, and financial transaction details. Thirteen credit cards linked to various banks were also recovered.

The case came to light on December 13, when a Delhi University student filed a complaint. She alleged that Bisht, posing as a US-based model, gained her trust and persuaded her to share private content.

Later, he used this material to demand money. Pressured, the victim made small payments but eventually informed her family and reported the matter to the police.

Following an FIR, a special team tracked Bisht to Shakarpur in east Delhi and arrested him. During interrogation, Bisht admitted to using a virtual international number for two years, registering on dating platforms, and extorting money from women.

Initially started for amusement, his actions turned into a calculated scheme for financial gain.

Bisht, from a middle-class family in Shakarpur, has a BBA degree and worked as a technical recruiter in Noida.

Police uncovered chats with over 60 women from Delhi and nearby areas and identified two linked bank accounts with multiple victim transactions. Further investigations are ongoing.
