DGP visits Kupwara’s Lolab, stresses need for peace and people’s inclusion

Jammu  Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), Shri Nalin Prabhat, visited the Lolab Valley in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday, a region once deeply affected by militancy and situated close to the Line of Control (LoC).

The visit aimed to assess the law-and-order situation on the ground, review ongoing security arrangements, and raise the morale of local police forces. Senior officers, including SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani, accompanied DGP Prabhat.

The DGP’s presence in the region was seen as a clear message from the administration. There will be zero tolerance for violence, and sincere efforts are being made to ensure lasting peace and development in all corners of the region.

Locals welcomed the visit, calling it a meaningful gesture of recognition. “It matters when someone of his stature comes here, listens to us, and sees our reality first-hand,” said a resident.

Security experts say that visits like these are not just about oversight — they help bridge the gap between the administration and people in conflict-affected areas. “Direct engagement fosters trust and a sense of inclusion. It’s important not just tactically, but emotionally,” said a senior security analyst.

The visit reflects a broader approach in Kashmir’s security policy — one that emphasizes both firmness on militancy and outreach to the people.

As the region continues to navigate its path toward stability, such gestures of presence and participation from top officials are being seen as essential steps in building a durable peace.
