Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and Sangrur Punjab MP Simranjit Singh Mann continued his sit-in protest at Lakhanpur after he was denied entry into Jammu Kashmir on Monday evening.
Simranjit Singh along with his supporters was stopped at Lakhanpur by the administration stating that his visit may cause “disturbance in public and tranquility”.
Mann was scheduled to visit Kathua, Jammu, Srinagar, and Chittisinghpura in Anantnag.
The MP is still camping at Lakhanpur. He had come earlier as well on three to four occasions and was sent back by the government. He wants to visit Jammu and Srinagar for public meetings. He reportedly wanted to hold a meeting in Kathua as well, Police said.
However, Mann said that being an elected MP it was his constitutional right to visit any part of Indian territory.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri Sikh Activist, Angad Singh Khalsa speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that it was very disheartening to see Simranjit Singh Mann sitting on gate of lakhanpur border.
“Keeping a senior Sikh and minority leader on road for all night is not only shameful but it explains the value of minority leaders in eyes of present regime, it’s almost third time in the past few years S Simranjit Singh Mann has been disallowed to enter J&K,”Angad said.
Angad said that Akali Dal and Mann have always been at the frontline to help Kashmiris and specially Kashmiri students studying in Punjab. “Mann saab is true friend and well wisher of people of JK. He wanted to visit JK and share pain of all communities who are the victims of ongoing violence be it Kashmiri pandits, Muslims, Sikhs migrated labourers, but unfortunately everyone other than will wisher of Kashmiris is allowed to address people here,” he said.
