‘Dismantling remnants of the secessionist ecosystem’: Police issue statement on raids at separatist residences

 

Srinagar Police on Tuesday conducted searches at multiple locations in Srinagar and Sopore as part of ongoing investigations into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials said.

According to a police spokesman, the cases involve banned organizations, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group).

“The searches were linked to investigations in FIR No. 15/2024 under Sections 10, 13 of the UAPA and Sections 121, 121A of the IPC at Police Station Rajbagh, Srinagar; FIR No. 04/2024 under Sections 10, 13 of the UAPA at Police Station Saddar; and FIR No. 03/2024 under Sections 10, 13 of the UAPA at Police Station Shaheed Gunj,” the statement said.

Among those targeted were Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, whose residences in Bhat Mohalla, Botingoo, Sopore, and Wazir Bagh, Rajbagh, Srinagar, were searched. Authorities also searched the residence of Shabir Ahmad Shah in connection with FIR No. 04/2024.

As part of FIR No. 03/2024, raids were conducted at seven locations in Srinagar, targeting individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful activities.

The individuals include Masrat Alam Bhat of Zaindar Mohalla, Habba Kadal; Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga) of Batmaloo; Ghulam Nabi Wagay of Khanyar; Feroz Ahmad Khan of Khanyar; Mohammad Nazir Khan of Koolipora, Khanyar; Hakeem Abdul Rashid of Botakadal, Lal Bazar; and Javaid Ahmad Munshi (alias Bilpapa) of Methan, Chanpora.

The searches were conducted after securing warrants from the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar. A police spokesman said all raids were carried out in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses in accordance with legal procedures.

“The investigation aims to dismantle the remnants of the secessionist and terrorist ecosystem in Jammu Kashmir by identifying and taking legal action against individuals engaged in such activities,” he added.
