Doctor, Five migrant workers killed in militant attack in Kashmir

A doctor and five migrant workers lost their lives when militants opened fire at a construction site in Gagangir, Ganderbal district, Jammu Kashmir, according to official sources on Sunday.

NDTV reported that the casualty count might rise as several others were injured in the attack.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the incident, calling it a “dastardly and cowardly” act. “The casualty figure from the Gagangir attack is not final, as several injured labourers, both local and non-local, are being treated. I pray for their full recovery, with the more seriously injured being referred to SKIMS, Srinagar,” he posted on X.

The militants targeted a camp housing labourers from a private company working on an under-construction tunnel in the Gund area. Security forces, including police and army personnel, have cordoned off the area to track the attackers.

The Jammu Kashmir Police confirmed the incident on X, stating: “Militant incident in Gagangir, Ganderbal. Area cordoned off by security forces. Further details shall follow.”
