The Residents of Soaf Shali village in the Kokernag belt of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have been reeling under an acute shortage of water for the past two weeks causing hardships to the locals.
Residents of Ahanger Mohalla and Ganie Mohalla in Soaf Shali have been facing an acute shortage of piped water for the past two weeks.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the residents said that they are forced to fetch water from ponds on a daily basis, alleging that the area had been ignored by authorities of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department.
Another resident said that the water taps in their village run dry most of the time and they had to cover long distances to fetch water. “We have been facing a shortage of water for past two weeks and the concerned authorities never paid heed to our requests,” they added.
They said we have conveyed many times to concerned authorities nothing was done other than assurances, adding, ” We have appealed of the department to dug bore wells and water lifting scheme for the village.”
Meanwhile, when we contacted AEE Jal Shakti Kokernag Mohahmmed Ayoub he said due to a decrease in water level scheduled water supply will be provided to every village. He urged the general public for their cooperation by avoiding misuse of water supply.
The official also told The Kashmiriyat that he will direct concerned officials to visit the area to redress the genuine grievances of people.
