Kashmir is experiencing a significant water shortage due to a prolonged dry spell and intense heat waves following which authorities have called on residents to conserve water and avoid wastage.
The Executive Engineer of the Water Works Division Srinagar said that the increased water consumption resulting from the rising temperatures has led to shortages, especially in the tail-end areas of Srinagar.
To mitigate the issue, the public, as per a statement, has been urged to use drinking water judiciously and refrain from using it for non-essential purposes such as lawn maintenance, kitchen gardens, and vehicle washing.
The statement also addressed the issue of direct online boosters, advising consumers to stop using them immediately. “This practice disrupts the equitable distribution of water and is in violation of the Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources Regulation and Management Act 2010. The department has warned that action will be taken against those who do not comply,” the official said in the statement.
For residents facing water supply issues, they are encouraged to contact the PHE Provincial Control Room, which operates around the clock. The contact numbers for the control room are 0194-2477207 and 0194-2452047 for landlines, 18001807027 for toll-free assistance, and 9419413914 and 9419413915 for WhatsApp communications.
Additionally, Nodal Officers have been appointed to address genuine grievances related to water supply. They can be reached at 7006645986, 6005361191, 9596185150, and 7006604905, the statement read.
