Eight days after wedding, young woman dies of heart attack in Shopian

A newlywed woman from Shopian, identified as Saba Ayoub, died of a heart attack on Saturday, just eight days after her marriage.

The sudden death has shocked the local community. “She was so young, no one could imagine something like this would happen so soon after her wedding,” said a neighbour.

Another resident questioned the rise in such cases, saying, “We keep hearing about sudden heart attacks, but no one tells us why. There should be proper research.”

Health officials acknowledged the growing concern but said comprehensive studies were lacking. A senior doctor from GMC Srinagar told The Kashmiriyat, “The number of young patients with cardiac arrests has certainly increased in recent years. While lifestyle stress, and undiagnosed conditions are major factors, more detailed research is needed at the local level.”

Locals have urged the government and health authorities to investigate the causes and run awareness programmes on preventive health check-ups.
