Encounter breaks out in Shopian area

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Badimarg area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday afternoon, a joint group of 34 RR, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in Shopian’s Badimarg launched a cordon and search operation.

The hiding militants opened fire on the troopers during the cordon, triggering an encounter. 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

As per Sources, the encounter is going in open orchards in a vast area in Badimarg which is the bordering village between south Kashmir districts of Shopian and Kulgam.

The Jammu Kashmir Police through its official Twitter handle confirmed the encounter saying, “#Encounter has started in the orchards of Badimarg/ Aloora area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
