Encounter breaks out in Shopian area

An encounter broke out between militants and government forces in the Wathoo Shirmal area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a joint team of Government forces including the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police following an input about militant movement laid a cordon and search operation in Shopian’s Shermal area.

During the cordon and search operation, he said, the forces came under heavy fire from militants, to which the forces responded.

The entry and exit points of the encounter site have been sealed and an intermittent exchange of gunfire has begun, locals told the Kashmiriyat.
