Encounter breaks out in Udhampur area

An encounter has broken out between militants and government forces in the Duhampur district of Jammu Kashmir

Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that a team of Jammu Kashmir Police, Indian army and CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation in the Basantnagar area of Udhampur district in Jammu following inputs about militant movement in the area.

During the operation launched on Tuesday afternoon, the hiding militants opened fire on forces, triggering an encounter, they said.

SSP Udhampur Joginder Singh confirming the exchange of gunfire said that security forces have established contact with terrorists at Khaner in Basantgarh area Of Udhampur district.

As per the latest reports, a massive exchange of gunfire is going on at the site of the encounter.
