An encounter has broken out between militants and government forces in the Batakot area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday morning 3 RR of the Indian Army, 116 Battalion of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a joint launched a cordon and search operation in the Sirchand forest area of Pahalgam’s Batakot division.
During the cordon, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight, he said
Two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that a massive exchange of gunfire is on in the area.
