Two separate encounters erupted between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Kathua districts in Sunday.
In Poonch, the gunfight began when the security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on information about the possibility of terrorists being present in the area.
According to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), acting on a tip-off, police and Army personnel launched a joint search operation at Pathanateer area yesterday evening, according to a security official.
Two to three terrorists are hiding in the forest area of Mendhar.
During the operation, the search team came under fire from suspected terrorists hiding in the area, leading to a gunfight.
Intermittent exchange of gunfire between the two sides continue, the official said, adding that reinforcements have been dispatched to the location.
Later in afternoon, an encounter erupted in Hilly Bani area of Kathua district.
As per initial reports, exchange of fire was reported and reinforcement is also being rushed to the entire site.
Pertinently, an Army soldier was injured after an infiltration bid was foiled in Nowshera Sector while on Friday two Indian Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed in an encounter in Kishtwar district—(KNO)
